The International Academy of Design & Technology, Seattle, Washington Announces Two New In-House Design Studios
August 7, 2007
Seattle, WA, August 7, 2007 - The International Academy of Design & Technology Seattle announces The Agency - a graphic design agency poised to tackle design projects with the highest caliber of talent, skill, creativity, and passion, and The Studio - an innovative design group sponsored by the IADT Seattle Interior Design Program.
IADT Seattle places great importance on giving back to the community, an idea that The Agency and The Studio have also adopted, as well. As a way to fulfill that commitment, both design groups balance a variety of work that is a mix of pro-bono and paid projects.
Student designers qualify for a position with The Agency by completing extensive training in software design programs such as the Adobe's InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Dreamweaver, Fireworks and Flash. Digital Media students are trained in web development and design, and videography as well as Apple's Final Cut Studio 2.
"The academy's design agency functions much the same as a real-world design business," states Greg Anderson, Visual Communication Program Chair at IADT Seattle. "Our students work as account representatives, strategists, designers and production artists - completing projects for Seattle area businesses and developing promotional advertising for IADT Seattle."
"Working with IADT's in-house creative team is almost better than working with outside firms because the students are hungry to get out into the real world and prove themselves," states Kevin Bengault, one of two Student Project Managers at The Agency. "We are always quick to turn out the freshest of ideas."
"The desire and talent exhibited by IADT's student-designers shows in the work they do - from reviving the downtown atmosphere of some of the greater Puget Sound's thriving cities, to logo and website creation, to commercial design and development. These designers are fresh and on their way up and they find it refreshing to apply what was studied in class to real world projects," said Mark Beagley, IADT Student Body President and the other Student Project Manager for The Agency.
The Studio - a student run interior design group managed by Interior Design Program Chair, Dan Crandall, and David Ross, Instructor and Advisor, has been busy since their spring 2007 quarter opening. The Studio's student designers are given projects and assigned roles, just like in the real world of professional design, and one designer is responsible for leading the team. Some of the projects include participating in downtown Renton 's revival, creating illustrations for the City of Bellevue Bike Path project, updating a client's vacation home, and assisting another with the design updates to her group homes. "The project that is most special to me," states Laura Nielsen, Director of Career Services, "is the interior space planning for a boutique that is being opened in one of Seattle's hippest neighborhoods by a graduate of IADT Seattle's fashion design program. It really shows how we all can work together to succeed."
