California Lawyers for the Arts Assembles Dynamic Panel for August 11th Event

Sacramento, CA. (August 7, 2009) – The International Academy of Design & Technology-Sacramento (the Academy) will host a special legal seminar presented by California Lawyers for the Arts (CLA) on August 11, 2009. The goal of the event is to arm future, creative designers with important legal information that will protect their intellectual interests for years to come. The event is expected to draw more than 100 students from the Academy’s fashion design and marketing, interior design and visual communication degree programs.

The mission of CLA is to establish a bridge between the arts and the legal communities so that: artists and art groups may gain greater competence in handling legal and business aspects of their creative activities; the legal profession may become more aware of and involved in issues affecting artists and the arts community and the law may become more responsive to the needs and interests of the arts community.

During the first hour of the event, the CLA panel will present a series of mini-seminars including: Dennis Yep on taxes; Mark Leonard on copyright and contract; Merle Axelrod on business aspects of a textile career; and Bonnie Kneitel on mediation in the arts as a viable method for conflict resolution. Ellen Taylor will server as moderator. During the second hour, students will have an opportunity to participate in an extensive question and answer session with the panel.

The community is also welcome to participate in this free event:
