Summer Studio Introduces College to High School Students

August 9, 2007

The International Academy of Design & Technology hosted a two-day workshop for high school students to learn about the professional world of design.

Troy, Mich . - This past weekend, more than 40 high school students from over 30 area high schools attended Summer Studio '07 at the International Academy of Design & Technology (IADT). Every summer, the program allows high school juniors and seniors an opportunity to gain a competitive edge during their summer break by collaborating with IADT's professional design staff. The program allows students a chance to work in industry-current labs to create design projects worth showing off.

Students who attended the two-day workshop got a taste of college-level work in their choice of a design & technology field. Students interested in fashion constructed a dress. Those interested in game production created storyboards. Students exploring graphic design created custom logos and letterhead. The group attending the interior design workshop created presentation boards. And the remainder of the students recorded and edited 30 second public service announcements in the digital media program.

"The high school students that attended Summer Studio '07 brought a great deal of creativity to their projects," said Katrina McGuire, Event Organizer and Presenter for IADT. "It was great to see high school students get excited about a potential career path."

IADT student-guests said that they were quite impressed with the labs and equipment, the one-on-one instruction, and the kind and caring staff. They also remarked that they loved having the ability to express their creativity while learning more about the design industry.
