A Fashion Show to Dream About
April 18, 2006
Dreams turn into reality on April 28 with the International Academy of Design and Technology's annual fashion show, Dream 2
Troy, Mich. The Fashion Design students at the International Academy of Design and Technology (IADT) in Michigan are busy making fantasies come to life in the garments that will appear in its annual fashion show. Dream 2 will feature 39 student designers and 6 faculty designers. All of the designers were required to submit sketches of their designs in January, draft original patterns, and have their garments completed by the end of March for prejudging. Each designer was allowed to submit up to seven garments, but each piece had to fall into one of the following categories: Business, Denim, Fantasy, Sportswear, or After Five/Club.
The fashion show will end with the Red Dress Finale; dresses that were created and designed to support the American Heart Association's 2006 "Go Red for Women" campaign. Dream 2 is the last stop on the local Red Dress Tour that began January 3rd.
"When we were prejudging the garments at the end of March, I had to remind myself that I was reviewing student designs," said Elaine Ohno , Chairperson of Dream 2 and faculty member at IADT. "Watching the students advance through the program and seeing the quality of their work progress from last year's big event has been really gratifying."
The fashion show will take place on Friday, April 28th, at the Masonic Temple's Crystal Ballroom in Detroit, beginning at 7:30pm. Tickets must be purchased in advance and are now on sale at the IADT campus in Troy ( 1850 Research Drive ). General Admission is $10 and Reserved Seating is $20.
Students can earn a college degree in Fashion Design, Graphic Design, Game Production, or Interior Design at the Academy, accredited by the Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools. The Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools is listed as a nationally recognized accrediting agency by the United States Department of Education and is recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation.
