I Got Into This Field Because … Capturing images is a passion and an obsession. It is my personal form of communication and expression and has been a constant through my life. Photography keeps me grounded, on the close side of sanity and forever chasing a dream of creative perfection, which will never be fully achieved, hence the continuing drive to keep taking photographs. The medium has been a lifestyle and a financial provider for over 35 years in many different forms; images anchor me in time, as I remember some unique photographs I have been fortunate to create since the age of 7, when my grandfather gave me a camera from the late 1800s. The continuing theme in my photography is the excitement of translating my thoughts, emotions and mental visuals into a two-dimensional image that carries these emotions, concepts and visions. The too-often frustration involved in the process is an integral part of the potential satisfaction from an image, even if this is for a brief moment, only to be replaced by the chase for another more-pleasing and accurate result. Photography is akin to being alive, being able to view the wonders of all and steal fleeting moments, memories and emotions, sometimes in a voyeuristic, documentary way. It is nothing short of magic. How else would you be able to infuse emotions onto a lifeless piece of paper?
What I Love About Teaching Is … The art of teaching is closely related to the craft of photography, with its subtle but all-important relationships with individuals who share a similar passion for the medium. The immense satisfaction of helping someone else achieve their dreams is undeniably as worthy as any work I could ever produce, and in the process of giving back the knowledge I have been fortunate to be taught by great masters, I also benefit greatly by the inspiration gained from mentoring a new generation of talented artists who are fearless in their visions. Education is a noble form of service.
One Thing Most People Don't Know About Me Is … Adventure is the driving force behind most of my decisions, from professional skydiving to flying jets and WWII planes, from cooking to base jumping, from fine arts to advertising, from war photography to traveling the world. Adventure focuses my creative endeavors; it helps me relate to students who enter into their unique adventures, allowing me an insight in their journeys.

What I Teach at IADT: I currently sub for my entire faculty when they have photo assignments that keep them out of the classroom; I also guest lecture on topics in which I have an expertise. including fashion and advertising photography, business practices, clients and communications and full-contact critiquing.
I Got Into This Field Because … Over the years, I always had interns from colleges while I ran my commercial studio with my wife, and I found that having someone right there who wanted to learn and become what I have become was a humbling experience; it helped to make me more conscious of how lucky I am and to become better at everything I did because students were using me as their benchmark. When the opportunity came to make use of my enjoyment of being a mentor, using my college degree and my professional experience, I jumped into it and never regretted my decision to become an educator.
What I Love About Teaching Is … I love actually seeing the light bulb go on above a student's head when they "get it." I also love to see the student take a concept or a thought or an idea from me, change it, make it their own and be able to use that knowledge to create images that feed their family, pay for their house and their car and have a life where they can make a living at something they absolutely love to do.
One Thing Most People Don't Know About Me Is … I am a shy, reclusive and "glass-half-empty" individual; I am also quite sarcastic.
My Notable Awards/Achievements Include: My most notable achievement is going to work each day to spend time with a bunch of professionals whom I not only admire for their accomplishments but because of the people they are and that the passion that they have for their craft and their students matches my own. Every day I pull up to this building dizzy thinking of all the things that I do not know yet. But I have that "burning in the belly" that I have and share with my staff and students, so I run in to make something happen, and sure enough, every day something happens.

Title/Position: Full-time faculty, Audio Production
Educational Background:
- Bachelor of Music, Berklee College of Music
Professional Experience:
- Professional Songwriter/Record Producer: Universal Records /Jive Records/Bad Boy Records /J Records
What I Teach at IADT: Introduction to Audio Production, Audio Recording Techniques, Studio Concentration
I Got Into This Field Because … Growing up, I always wanted to be a singer. As I pursued my dreams and learned more about the industry, I discovered talents I never knew I had and thus started branching into many different areas of the business including mixing, songwriting, record production and in two cases, artist development.
What I Love About Teaching Is … I discovered a lot of truths and misconceptions about the industry through trial and error and from being involved in the field. Teaching gives me the opportunity to share with students all of these personal experiences that could save them a lot of time when they decide to venture into the field. I also love showing students a completely different perspective of an idea they think they have completely figured out.
One Thing Most People Don't Know About Me Is … I did a lot of ghost-writing when I first entered the field and needed quick money. There are a number of records that made it to national and international airwaves that I had a hand in helping to create but received no credit on. Today, I am still actively working in the mainstream music industry, and I bring these experiences to the classroom and share them with hopes that my students will not repeat the same mistakes I that have made.
My Notable Awards/Achievements Include: Billboard Hot 100 placements
