IADT-Detroit Fashion Students Shine in Local Opportunities

October 24, 2012 IADT General, IADT Detroit, Fashion Design 0 Comments

Under the leadership of Rebecca Moore, interim fashion program chair, the fashion students and faculty have been actively involved in several recent events. In particular, with their involvement in both the Detroit Design Festival and, most notably, in several Detroit Fashion Week festivities, faculty and students have been actively engaged and exposed to the fashion industry from diverse perspectives. These are awesome and exciting experiences!

Detroit Fashion Week, which took place the week of Sept. 23, was marketed throughout the region as Michigan’s Premier Industry Event. Earlier in the week, a special event was held at the Detroit Yacht Club featuring a fashion show at which our very own student designer Shawniqua Smith showcased her designs!  his was a spectacular showing offering great exposure to well-known designers in the industry.

The most notable event, perhaps, was the closing event for the Detroit Design Festival, in which the IADT Detroit Graphic and Interior Design teams were also involved. IADT student designers Viviana Podina, Batina Brier, and Sikhangezile “Becky” Bedtelyon were involved in Runway Detroit at the Detroit City Airport. This offered enormous opportunity to showcase our student talent while networking with many professional designers, including community leaders.

We’re not done yet! Detroit Fashion Week also sponsored the Princess Riverboat Showcase Cruise. Designer showcases, student showcases, and accessory showcases were all part of the evening’s agenda. Again, our very own student designer Sikhangezile “Becky” Bedtelyon showcased her designs while cruising along the Detroit/Windsor border!
