IADT-Sacramento, Calif. (June 3, 2013) – The International Academy of Design and Technology - IADT Sacramento students and faculty assist with the design of the soon to be rebuilt McKinley playground.
The International Academy of Design and Technology - IADT Sacramento Building Information Modeling and Construction Management students and faculty designed the 3D images for the McKinley Park Playground rebuilding plan. The students and faculty have donated their time and expertise for these plans and will be assisting with the building of the playground as well.
The overall plan included many elements for this playground. The complex play structure will be built of composite wood products featuring a fantasy riverboat, trolley car and locomotive. Other play elements include a musical instrument wall, playhouses, game areas, a fire pole, slides, swings, quad pods, climbing boulders and rocks. The entrance to the playground will be reminiscent of the original Alhambra theater and the original “lion fish” sculptures will be kept.
IADT students and faculty used AutoCAD and Revit software programs to model and import the 3D elements that created the total plan. Over 100 hours of work by the students and faculty were completed on the project. An AVI file will also be created for the McKinley Park rebuild website to host a flyby mini-movie of the playground site.
The plans were given to the city of Sacramento and were presented at the recent press conference on May 10, 2013. McKinley playground was damaged due to a fire and the community is coming together to rebuild it. Additional volunteers are welcome.
