IADT-Orlando’s Fashion Design and Merchandising students have been invited to create a runway fashion show competition in conjunction with Orlando's annual Come Out With Pride celebration.
The runway show will take place at the Pride Kick-off party on Oct. 6, and the winner's work will be prominently featured in the Pride Parade on Oct. 8. Last year, 70,000 people attended this event!
IADT was the only school invited to participate in this event, and we need our students’ talents to make it a success. Get all the info you need for the chance to be featured in this show below:
Develop concepts for four themed runway looks:
- Look 1: A fantastic, over-the-top dress suitable for a drag queen to wear in the Come Out With Pride Parade.
- Look 2: A high-end evening look, suitable for an elegant cocktail party, that takes inspiration from the 1970s. Think disco balls & Studio 54!
- Look 3: A fun spring or summer look that takes color inspiration from one of the colors in the Come Out With Pride Logo (right).
- Look 4: A look of your choosing from one of the following categories:
Daytime professional / office
Stylish stay-at-home parent
Submissions should include at least one look from each of the four themes. Submissions that do not address all four themes will not be considered. Students are allowed and encouraged to sketch multiple looks for each theme. The judging panel will consider the best look for each of the four themes from each student's submission.
Please submit 11” x 17” printed boards to communicate your ideas for each of the 4 looks. For example:
Board 1: Color and Textile Board
What colors and fabrics are you using? Include samples and specific labels (“100% cotton” or “satin” is not enough).
Board 2: Fully Rendered Color Illustration Board
o Quality illustrations of the four themed runway looks, to help us see your vision as clearly as you do.
o Additional illustrations are welcome for each runway look, and these can be placed on additional boards if necessary.
All submissions are due no later than Friday, July 8. Submit boards to Sharon Smith in room 122E by noon.
The Selection Process & Prizes:
The top 25 designers will be notified on Monday, July 11, and will be invited to present their concepts to a panel of judges the week of July 11 - 15.
8 finalists will be announced and notified on Friday, July 15, and will receive funding ($100) to bring their concepts to reality. (Finalists have until mid-September to construct their 4 looks).
The 8 finalists will have their outfits presented at a runway fashion show at the Come Out With Pride Kick-off party on Oct. 6.
That evening our winner will be selected by a panel of judges and will have his or her designs featured on a float in the Come Out With Pride Parade on Oct. 8.
All 8 finalists will receive digital copies of professional photographs taken of their work. The winner will also receive 4 VIP passes to all Come Out With Pride Events on Oct. 8 and have their designs featured in an article in a local LGBT publication.
