Student Activities at The Academy Online compliments the academic programs of study and enhances the overall educational experience of all students. Student Activities provides services and programs to assist students in becoming more broadly educated and in developing meaningful interpersonal relationships. At The Academy Online, this is accomplished through such programs as The Academy Lecture Series, Educational Trips (domestic and abroad), Virtual Workshops and Leadership Programming.

During a summer 2009 collaborative effort, The Academy Online and IADT-Tampa partnered for The Academy Online's first student lead trip to New York City! The theme of the trip was "Summer in the City", which focused on both the Fashion Design and Fashion Merchandising industries; in the fashion capital ofthe world, New York City! With goals offostering an educational environment that allows for both meaningful student interaction and holistic development, student participants enrolled in either The Academy Online or IADT Tampa could participate on this trip. The "Summer in the City" New York Trip was precedent setting in the fact that it was the first trip in International Academy of Design & Technology history to partner Academy Ground students with Academy Online students!

While on the "Summer in the City" New York Trip, student participants had the opportunity to meet Fashion Merchandising and Fashion Design professionals, tour several "Couture" or "High Fashion" design studios and explore the entire Fashion District of Manhattan. The Academy students received backstage access to the DDC Lab-SOHO Fashion Design Studio and Lab, visited Kay Unger Fashion Studio and had the chance to visit the very popular House of Dereon Studios. Furthermore, the participants sat and chatted with IADT -Tampa Graduate (Staci Sherri); who currently designs for House of Dereon. In the midst of such an eventful itinerary, the students also participated in an IADT Alumni Social that was held at a Time Square Eatery. At the alumni social, past and present IADT students networked, shared funny collegiate stories and simply enjoyed each other's company; what a great moment!

"Providing such opportunities as the Summer in the City New York Trip for our student body is a great way to serve as a catalyst in the educational endeavors of our students and in encouraging them to immerse themselves in the Art & Design Industry pre and post graduation".
