If you are a fashion enthusiast, you know that Paris and London are two fashion design powerhouses. Both cities are home to a number of top fashion houses. However, the U.S. is a major fashion player as well. Each year, the Global Language Monitor, an organization that documents, analyzes and tracks trends in language, conducts a survey to find the top fashion cities*. In 2008, four U.S. cities made the cut. They are:

New York - The Big Apple came in first for the fifth year running. New York is not only home to one of the biggest fashion weeks around, it’s also home to a number of top fashion designers. There’s no doubt that when you think of urban glamour and style, you think about New York City. Just look at the number of fashion and television shows that use NYC as their backdrop.

Los Angeles - Los Angeles came in at number six on the list. It jumped up one spot from the 2007 survey. The Fashion District in LA spans 90 blocks and is the hub of the apparel industry on the West Coast**. It’s no surprise that LA made the list. It’s the heart of the movie, music and television industries. It’s also the home of white-hot celebrity style.

Las Vegas - Sin City was ninth on the list. It was also ninth the year before. Intense media exposure helped the city keep its ranking. Vegas may be known for its casinos and night life, but it’s also home to a number of well-known fashion trade shows like MAGIC and POOL. Las Vegas is gearing up for its first fashion week which will be held in September.

Miami - The spicy city of Miami was new to the list in 2008. It came in at number 26 due to its influence on the swimwear industry. Because of this, the "magic city" is the host city for Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Swim. Miami also has its own fashion week which showcases the best emerging and established designers from Latin America, Europe, Australia and the Middle East.
