Are you interested in learning more about HTML and XHTML? These languages are widely used by professionals in Web development, and learning them can be a tremendous help.

Web development encompasses a wide spectrum of elements, including design, content development, network security and even client relationships. One of the largest tasks for a professional Web developer includes writing markup and coding. Generally, a Web developer is more focused on the technical aspects of creating a website rather than the design process.

HTML and Web Development

If you have an interest in learning to speak HTML / XHTML, there is quite a bit you have to learn. HTML stands for Hypertext Markup Language, and is the most widely used language for Web pages. HTML provides structure to websites by creating semantics for text within a page. The text can include:

  • Titles
  • Headings
  • Paragraphs
  • Links
  • Lists
  • Quotes

The written version of HTML is used for images and objects that are embedded in websites. This allows them to be transformed into links or tags. HTML defines and transforms everything you type into a code using brackets, so that what you imagine is translated properly onto your website.

XHTML and Web Development

XHTML or Extensible Hypertext Markup Language is the extended version of HTML. XHTML is an application that is less flexible than HTML, but is used to create more well-rounded documents.

Some HTML tags can only be viewed in certain browsers, and with XHTML this problem is eliminated. XHTML is a more universal language recognized by all browsers, and it will not manipulate your website's look. By defining things using XHTML you can ensure they will be viewed the way you intended.
