Decorating for an Independence Day Party

If you're hosting an Independence Day party this summer, you'll want to drench your home in Old Glory's colors. We've come up with some creative places you can proudly display red, white and blue around your home for a party this summer.

Outdoors

If your Independence Day party is at your home, chances are people will spend a lot of time outside. By working ahead of time, you'll be able to make your garden more patriotic by planting beautiful red, white and blue flowers. If your party is going to take place at night, consider buying red, white and blue Christmas lights to hang up. And of course, you're going to need American flags. You can buy plenty of small flags to place around your lawn or one large flag to display on a pole or from your window.

Kitchen

Because most Independence Day parties center on food, the kitchen is a great place to incorporate your patriotic colors. You can start with the food itself. Make fruit salad filled with red, white and blue fruit, for example, or use food coloring to spice up cookies and cakes. On the table, you can use colored plates, silverware, place settings or napkins from a party store to add to your décor. Bunting hung along a table also adds a nice touch.

Living Room

Continue your theme into the living room. With a little bit of ingenuity, you can create red, white and blue throw pillows, rugs and quilts. Decorate your living room with pictures of past 4th of July celebrations in patriotic picture frames for a more personal touch. Look through your living room for any opportunity you can find to accent it with patriotic colors.

Bathroom

Yes, you can even make your bathroom patriotic. This is one room that almost all of your guests will visit at some point during the party, and they will likely be impressed if you make an effort to decorate it. A nice way to accent your bathroom is to put down a red, white or blue rug. You should also be able to find inexpensive hand towels or candles to add to your theme.
