IADT enters into an articulation agreement with the Detroit Public Schools

August 5, 2013 IADT General, IADT Detroit 0 Comments

The International Academy of Design and Technology, located in Troy, Michigan joined forces with the Detroit Public Schools to help high school students earn college credits.  On July 1, 2013, IADT and the Detroit Public Schools, signed an articulation agreement for the college’s Interior Design and Graphic Design programs.  Certain courses were identified which high school students can take to earn college credit at the academy.

This allows students to save money and be ahead of their curriculum, before they even begin college.  Mark Beagley, Department Chair for Design at IADT and Leonard Samborski, Program Supervisor at the Office of College and  Career Readiness at the Detroit Public Schools were both very involved in developing this agreement and opportunities for future college students.

The entire process took approximately a year to accomplish.  When asked about his experience with this, Mark Beagley stated, ““Being new to Detroit, this was an awesome opportunity for me to get to know and engage faculty and administrators from Detroit Public Schools, while creating a new path and opportunity for their students.”

Dr. Julia Smetanka, Director of Education at IADT felt strongly about this agreement.  Dr. Smetanka stated, “This articulation represents a solid partnership with the Detroit Public Schools for it is reflective of the pride we have of our students including the programs we offer.  Furthermore, this partnership provides greater opportunity for high school students to realize their goals in achieving a college education in design and technology.”
