Designing a website can be a long and arduous process, but with the right tools, it doesn’t have to be. Having a template makes the initial stages of design easier and saves you a lot of time and money.
A template is a collection of design files that are used to build a website. They can be purchased online or downloaded for free, and they typically include four or so blank or customizable pages, images, HTML, CSS and files such as Flash or .SWF files.
Whereas a custom template could cost thousands of dollars, ready-to-use templates can typically be bought or downloaded for less than $100. All templates are fully customizable, so you can edit them to make the pages unique to your needs.
Templates by themselves are not considered unique designs, as it is possible that other people have bought and used the same template. However, with so many templates available and the option of customization, the chances are slim that you would ever run across precisely your same template.
Typically with custom templates, the Web designer offers a few designs to from which to choose. With a downloadable template, you’ll save money while having more options.
