Sharon Smith

Sharon Smith

Department Chair, Design

Sharon Smith received a BA in Industrial Design, specializing in Textiles, from the Scottish College of Textiles and earned her master’s degree in Textile Design with CAD from Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh, Scotland. Upon graduating, she started a freelance textile design consultancy. Sharon taught in the undergraduate and graduate Textile program at Heriot-Watt University and was an External Examiner at De Montfort University. She worked as a Design Manager for a Scottish textile software company for seven years before moving to the United States to take on the role of North American Design Manager. Her professional experience encompasses woven and printed textile design, CAD training, trend presentations and teaching. She joined IADT-Orlando as an adjunct instructor in October 2008. Sharon continues to work in the textile industry producing original printed and woven textile designs for apparel and surface décor exclusively for a New York design studio.

Chris Swafford

Christopher Swafford

Lead Instructor, Digital Media Production

Christopher Swafford holds a bachelor's degree in Radio, TV, and Film from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock and a Master of Fine Arts in Film and Television from Savannah College of Art and Design. Prior to moving to Orlando, Chris worked several years in the broadcast news industry as a videographer and editor. Currently, Chris is producing SPEAKOUT TV, a weekly talk show that's taped and edited at IADT-Orlando. He is also working on several short film projects.

Carrie Palumbo

Lead Instructor, Interior Design

Carrie Palumbo graduated from Youngstown State University in Ohio, where she studied Fashion Merchandising. She then earned a master’s degree from the University of Kentucky in Textiles and Merchandising, working on historical costume exhibits while in graduate school. Later, she worked for Macy's in the corporate office and in the Atlanta wholesale market center. She has had the pleasure of teaching at IADT since 2004.

Steve Emberton

Steve Emberton

Lead Instructor, Game Production

Steve Emberton holds a Bachelor of Science in Interactive Multimedia from Purdue University and a Master of Science in Game Design from Full Sail University. He is an experienced game designer, having previously worked at ZeeGee Games in Orlando and on several independent game projects.

Chelsea McCown

Chelsea McCown

Lead Instructor, Fashion Design and Merchandising

Chelsea McCown received her BA from Flagler College with a focus in Fine Art and an MS from the University of Kentucky with a focus in Merchandising, Apparel and Textiles. She has worked with companies such as Anthropologie, Lucky Magazine and the J. Peterman Company.

Robert Phillips

Robert Phillips

Lead Instructor, General Education

With a bachelor degree in English’s and a master’s degree in Education, Robert Phillips brings both theory and practice to his English and Literature courses. He has taught at a variety of colleges and universities, public and private, in two-year and four-year programs.
