IADT-San Antonio Helped the Gavels Blaze in KLRN's 44th Annual Auction

June 10, 2010

SAN ANTONIO (June 10, 2010) – Graphic design students from the International Academy of Design and Technology (IADT) San Antonio offered their design expertise to contribute to the 2010 KLRN Great TV Auction. A group of students from the local IADT-San Antonio campus were commissioned by KLRN to design and hand paint the set for KLRN's Blazing Gavels on-air fundraiser.

The project leader was IADT-San Antonio instructor Judith Cottrell, and participating students included Citlalli Castellon, Adam Maldonado, Davone Hills, Irasema Rojas and Jodi Wiemers. Instructors Juan Ramos, Scott Cooper and Justin Schneider, along with Blue Star participants led by Alex Rubio, also helped to paint over a dozen set pieces that ranged in size from four feet to 12 feet.

"It was an honor to be part of such a great project that means so much to the city of San Antonio," said Cottrell. "KLRN always does a fantastic job with the fundraiser, and our students were happy to contribute their talents to the design elements that appeared on the air."

The designs conveyed a rustic San Antonio-flavored style with familiar imagery such as the Alamo, the Tower of the Americas, folklorico dancers, cowboy boots and fighter jets. Cottrell, Ramos and the IADT-San Antonio students were also a part of the on-air festivities on June 15. The auction aired nightly on KLRN from June 6 to June 19.
