International Academy of Design & Technology Opens Its Doors To Sacramento

Academy Grand Opening Event May 22

Sacramento, Calif. (May 6, 2008) — International Academy of Design & Technology (Academy) – Sacramento, which opened in 2007, will host its Grand Opening event Thursday, May 22. The school will showcase its students, as well as feature guest speakers: Paulette Trainor, ASID, of Trainor & Associates design, Tom Langeland, from Smartsign Media, and fashion stylist, Nolé Marin. The reception will last from 5:00 to 7:30 p.m.

The Academy was established to fill a critical need for students not addressed by traditional four-year institutions. The Academy provides educational programs that prepare students for professional opportunities in the creative fields of fashion design, marketing, interior design and visual communication. The faculty includes a talented collection of working professionals with concrete work experience.

"We have enjoyed some terrific success here in Sacramento," stated Academy - Sacramento President, Melody Rider. "Our students have gotten involved in the community and we produced a wonderful fashion show in March. We have been able to leverage the relationships of our faculty members and introduce the students to professionals who can inspire them to reach for their dreams."

Nolé Marin will be the keynote speaker of the evening. Marin is one of the many fashion-editors of ELLE magazine (US) and he is a celebrity fashion stylist. He is probably most famous as a judge on the then UPN's hit series America's Next Top Model cycles 3 and 4. More recently, he has been on Canada’s Next Top Model.

International Academy of Design & Technology - Sacramento students are offered curriculum in the following creative areas:

Fashion Design & Marketing
Students can learn merchandising and marketing of showroom and retail techniques in the display and sale of fashion, and can gain an understanding of the principals of visual merchandising, fashion marketing, consumer behavior and the quality and performance of materials. Students have the opportunity to learn pattern drafting, draping, clothing construction, creative garment development from student original designs utilizing computer pattern drafting software to design, plan and create a variety of clothing patterns; explore merchandising principles and practices to market and sell fashion clothing and accessories.

Interior Design
Study of the history of architecture, development of design concepts for interior spaces and transforming them into practical, functional and innovative environments. Drafting and planning of both residential and commercial design are studied and provide students with hands on experience. Building systems, regulations and current business practices are also taught to prepare student for internships and professional careers.

Visual Communication
Commercial art, graphic design and multimedia industries present a variety of creative career options. Students have the opportunity to learn basic drawing, design and typographical skills, digital imaging, computer illustration and apply their knowledge and skills to graphic design problems and projects. Color and design principles, composition, printing technology and translating advertising ideas into digital images for internet communications are the focus on this intensive curriculum.
